Stay Ahead of Fall & Improve Workplace Safety

Shorter days, sudden rain, and dropping temperatures make fall work unpredictable and challenging. Low-visibility conditions and cold, wet hands can slow progress, reduce focus, and increase the risk of mistakes. Workers can't wear the same gear year-round. As the season changes, so does the protection they need. High-visibility, winter-ready gloves and apparel keep workers safe, comfortable, and performing at their best.

Training & Safe Work Practices

Provide Worker Training
Educate workers to recognize seasonal hazards and adjust their pace and techniques to account for frost and uneven surfaces. Reinforce proper hazard reporting and review first aid basics so the team is prepared if an incident occurs. For example, slowing down when carrying materials on slick surfaces or using extra caution on ramps and stairs can help prevent injuries.
Prepare the Worksite
Keep the site safe by removing debris, trimming overhanging branches, and ensuring proper drainage to prevent water pooling. Inspect ladders, scaffolding, and other elevated surfaces for stability before use.
Maintain Time-of-Day Awareness
Remind workers to take extra precautions during early mornings, late afternoons, or hours when surfaces may be icy and lighting is low. Whenever possible, schedule high-risk tasks for well-lit, dry periods, and remind workers to stay alert during early mornings and late afternoons.

Protective Gear & Personal Safety

Inspect & Maintain Safety Equipment
Before each use, inspect high-visibility garments for fading, damaged or missing reflective strips, and torn fabric. Garments that no longer provide adequate visibility or coverage should be replaced immediately.
Prevent Slips, Trips, and Falls
Keep walkways clear by regularly treating paths and entrances with salt or other ice melt, especially in the early morning. Maintain indoor and outdoor surfaces to ensure they are clean and dry, reducing the risk of injury and protecting tools. Encourage workers to wear slip-resistant shoes with good traction, and use handrails or other walking aids where available.
Stay Safe in Low-Light Conditions
Fall’s shorter days and early dusk make visibility a significant concern for outdoor workers. Provide workers with high-visibility garments that meet ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 standards, and light work areas with portable or fixed lighting.
